Le Voyage dans la Lune

The Earth goes round the Sun, the Earth goes round itself, the Moon goes round the Earth, the civil service goes round its rules, Love goes round and round, our certainties go round in circles and human beings go round and round themselves. In Le Voyage dans la Lune, the people living on the Moon like those living on Earth are convinced that the Others do not exist, that no other planet is inhabited and they are the only creatures of the Universe. Each planet has its own well  oiled system and each planet intends to keep it that way.

 And yet, a fickle young man and a unconventional princess will interrupt this perpetual cycle and their encounter will spark off an unprecedented revolution in the solar system.

A volcano will erupt, has the world been destroyed ?

Not really, after all, meeting the Others whose existence we denied simply offers a new  perspective and a little hindsight on this Earth and its unchanging sytem .

This is a very ‘down to earth’ paradox : our societies and cultures, especially in the Western world, are convinced that they have gone all round the world and know everything. It is hard for us to envisage other cultures and other codes to live by.

This is the true meaning of this Voyage dans la Lune when it twas created. Today, I would like to show our world in a new light, through what make us laugh in the opera, because what makes us laugh is both grotesque and full of fantasy and knows how to make fun gentle of human beings and their vanity , their systems and fears.

Dans un monde sans l’Autre, tout roule, enfin, tout tourne. 

La Terre autour du soleil, la Terre sur elle-même, la lune autour de la Terre, l’Administration autour de ses règlements, l’Amour en rond, nos certitudes en boucle et l’humain autour de soi.

Dans Le Voyage dans la Lune, les habitants de la Lune comme de la Terre sont convaincus que l’Autre n’existe pas, qu’aucune autre planète n’est habitée, qu’ils sont seuls dans l’univers. Chacun ayant son système bien rodé, qui tourne bien, et entend bien le garder ainsi.

Et pourtant, un jeune capricieux et une princesse fantaisiste auront raison de ce cycle perpétuel et provoqueront par leur rencontre une révolution sans précédent dans le système solaire. 

Un volcan explosera, le monde serait-il détruit ? Finalement non, rencontrer cet Autre dont on niait l’existence offre simplement un regard nouveau, et un peu de distance, sur cette Terre et son système qu’on pensait immuable.

Voilà un paradoxe bien « terrien » : nos sociétés et nos cultures, en particulier occidentales, sont convaincues 

d’avoir fait le tour du monde, de tout connaitre. Il nous est difficile d’envisager d’autres cultures et d’autres codes de valeurs. 

C’est pour moi le sens profond de ce Voyage dans la Lune à sa création. Aujourd’hui, je souhaite éclairer notre monde d’une lumière nouvelle par ce qui dans l’oeuvre va nous faire rire ; parce que ce qui fait rire est à la fois grotesque et fantastique et sait moquer avec bienveillance l’humain et sa vanité, ses systèmes et ses peurs.
