Lost souls, spirits, magic bullet : such is the fantasy world of the first Romantic German opera, composed by Carl Maria Weber in 1821. This lyrical drama owes a lot to Beethoven’s Fidelio and seems to announce Wagner’s Tannenhauser. A musical treasure for which the Compagnie 14-20, leader of the new magic music movement creates a visual and sensorial setting that invites the audience to question how it relates to the invisible and the subconscious.
Ames vendues au diable, invocation d’esprits, balles enchantées : tel est l’univers fantastique du premier opéra romantique allemand composé par Carl Maria von Weber en 1821. Un drame lyrique qui doit beaucoup au Fidelio de Beethoven et annonce le Tannhäuser de Wagner. Un joyau musical pour lequel la Compagnie 14:20, chef de file du mouvement de la magie nouvelle, cisèle un écrin visuel et sensoriel invitant le spectateur à interroger son rapport à l’invisible et à l’inconscient.

"Just a hop, skip and a Sprung down the Linke Wienzeile, the Theater an der Wien recently presented a semi-staged version by Olivier Fredj which was much more faithful to Johann Friedrich Kind’s creepy folk-lore libretto. With limited set-structure, but utilizing period costumes and clever lighting, Anglo/French Fredj adroitly managed to capture the Satanic sorcery of the narrative with plenty of scary images plus hunting rifles which actually fired."
